The education is one of the most important sectors for the development of a nation. Through the knowledge production a country grows, increasing its income and the people’s life quality.
Brazil has registered advancements in the education sector. Studies of the IBGE (in Portuguese) and the Ministry of Education and Culture point that the illiteracy rate is being reduced at the same time that the schooling level of the Brazilian population is growing.
On the other hand, there is still a lot to be done. The main challenge of the Brazilian education for the next decades refers to of the quality. The educational evaluations have verified that the repeating rates are high, and the learning levels in basic education are low. The results of 2003 of the Evaluation National System of Basic Education (Saeb in Portuguese), coordinated by the National Institute of Studies and Educational Researches (INEP in Portuguese) show that around 38% of the students, in the fourth grade of the elementary school was in a school delay situation. This scenery is caused by the late entry of the child in the school, by the classroom desertion and by the disapproval at the end of the school year.
The study, spread by the Institute Paulo Montenegro, in 2005, on the Functional Illiteracy Rate (INAF in Portuguese) indicates that only 26% of the adult Brazilian population had full power of reading and writing to face the demands of its social context, signaling still that reading, writing and mathematics basic skills are deeply badly distributed being associated to other forms of disparity and social exclusion.
Touched by this scenery, Bioenergy takes the Education as one of its priority focuses, supporting its own educational projects as well as of third ones, joining with the All for Education Commitment, an initiative that aims to improve the public education quality in Brazil. In this sense, the commitment establishes the objective of, when our country reaches the Bicentenary of Independence, in 2022, all the children and the young people can enjoy a public education of quality.
